Learn the strategies to avoid purpose killers

In part one of this devotional we talked about the three Ds that can destroy your purpose: Discouragement, Distraction, and Doubt. In this follow up devotional we are using a solution oriented lens, and identifying the top three strategies that will help to keep you focused and on point as you pursue your God given purpose.

Strategy #1: Partner with God. Have prayerful conversations with God, and ask him what he has destined and planned for your life. It's not enough to spend our time doing good things, we want to be mindful to do God things, and align our lives with those things that best serve God's people. Join him in obedience and participate in what he is doing in your life. Scripture tells us that we make our plans, but it is God who directs our steps. Seek his will and follow his instructions.

Strategy #2: Prepare. There's a saying that "luck is what happens when preparation and opportunity meet." While I don't necessarily believe in luck, I do believe in the importance of being adequately prepared at all times. Sometimes we lack the motivation and the will to accomplish our goals. Sometimes our priorities need to be adjusted, and readjusted in order to take our lives to the next level. No matter what season you find yourself in, it's never too late, or too early to prepare for your future. Be a good steward of what you currently have. When we do well with little, then God will trust us with more!

Strategy #3: Plan. Strategic planning isn't only for jobs and businesses. You must also develop a strategic plan for your life. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Where do you see yourself in 10? Consult with God, and create a vision for your life. In Habakkuk 2:2 scripture says to write the vision and make it plain. Outline specific action steps, give yourself goals and deadlines toward your desired outcome. A goal without a deadline and a clear path to accomplish the goal is simply a wish and a waste of your time.

When you are intentional about how you spend your time, you will be better equipped to fight of Discouragement, Distraction, and Doubt. When you are confident in what God is doing in and through you, then you will better equipped to endure tough seasons, tough people, and times of uncertainty.
